MILDENHALL V LION CUBS, PREVIEW

LEICESTER go back into National Development League action with a trip to reigning champions Mildenhall on Sunday (3pm).

The Lion Cubs got the better of the Fen Tigers 49-40 when the sides met at the Paul Chapman Arena in what was a bruising encounter last month.

But the Fen Tigers have also proved their strength in the early part of the season and enjoyed a successful Northern tour last weekend with a win at Armadale before becoming the only side so far to take a point from leaders Berwick.

The Suffolk side are led by Jason Edwards, who has made several useful guest appearances for the Lions this season, and also include James Shanes who rode against Leicester for Birmingham on Saturday.

But the home side are without Alex Spooner, who has suffered an arm injury, and rider replacement will be in operation to cover his absence.

The Lion Cubs are at full strength, including the welcome return of Max Perry at reserve, who makes his comeback six weeks after breaking his collarbone at Kent.

Manager Dave Howard said: “Whilst Mildenhall is always a tough away challenge, again the aim as we travel to West Row will be to pick up away points of some kind.

“These are going to be vital in our push to make the play-offs this season, and the battle is likely to be the most competitive it has been for a few years.

“With the majority of NDL teams now having solid and strong 1-7s as they now stand, this will mean some very good teams will miss those top four spots this season.

“And helping us in our solidity and strength, it’s great to have Max back on track for the Lion Cubs. He’s itching to get back into competitive racing and continue his first NDL campaign.”

MILDENHALL: Jason Edwards, Sam Bebee, Jack Kingston, Alex Spooner r/r, James Shanes, Josh Warren, Luke Muff, Jacob Fellows (no.8).
LEICESTER: Dan Thompson, Mickie Simpson, Connor Coles, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Vinnie Foord, Max Perry.
